Five Minutes

I remember as a child Innocent and wild Taking such things created by nature Leaves us to wonder, ponder, pontificate Blind to the cause I curse my blindness Never to see such beauty at close bay Frigid day, still that way, anyway Such are the memories of those who fight tooth and nail To retain their perspective on the past Who is right Who is wrong Those that do sleep with heavy hearts Do here all arrive but for a brief moment

Sally's Special Ball Dress

In the Kingdom of Mobius, everyone was getting ready for a Royal Bell held in the Acorn Family's Honor. Everything was all fancy like, tables were set with lovely filigree, the floors were washed, waxed and guaranteed to stay spotless until the ball, and everyone was getting ready to look their best. All except for one, their tomboy of a princess, Sally. The theme of the ball was very Victorian in nature, and while Sally did mind having to wear a dress, she didn't wish for one so puff and old fashioned that makes her look like the queen of England. Later that day, everything was just about set up, except that the Princess still had cold feet. So, when desperate times called, Sally's mother asked for her friends, Amy and Rogue to come and talk some sense into her daughter. So they headed up to see Sally sitting on her bed, reading a book. Amy:"Sally? Aren't you going to come down? The whole kingdom's here." Sally:"I'm not going." Rouge:"Really, sweetie? It's so unlike you to

Omo Basin: Top of the Tree

The upright ape moves in silence. He is a kaneera, a thick-jawed ape. He retreats from the sounds of hooting and barking from the troop. Their joyous sounds have faded from his hearing. Once he had land and a harem. Now he only has his handaxe. He clutches the flat stone weapon in his right hand. Its bladed, almost triangular shaped end points forward. He had helped the older, more dominant male take over the troop. For over a year he had been content to let the older male rule the roost. The ape walks toward a forest of green trees. The smell of fresh leaves and shoots wafts into his light brown, flat nose. Rain has washed away all traces of the dry season. With his left fingers he scratches an itch on his belly. Although he’s alone now, he remembers when he wasn’t. The memories of the troop visit him randomly like a capricious breeze. The high pitched hoots of the children, the warm milk smell from the lactating mothers, and the roar of the troop’s waterfall roll into and out of

Draknor: The Web of Creeta PT4

Eight red eyes stared down the two dracoz, the eyes burning with a red, hellish light. The great terrible mandibles parted and a hiss - like quenching metal - roared from the great spider. Venom dripped to the floor as Creeta stalked towards its victims. “Keep back Ylla!” Draknor ordered. Creeta drew closer. Draknor bellowed a challenge and moved forward. The great spider reared up and let out a shrill shriek. Draknor struck, watched and skirted to the side as the massive spider came down to where he had once been, gouging a deep gash in the rock. Draknor slashed with his sword scoring a cut across one of the forelegs of the great beast. Creeta let out a shrill cry and turned, Draknor attempting to get under the beast but found himself knocked to the side as the mass of the spider slammed into him. Creeta skittered towards Draknor as he hit the hard stone floor, his sword falling from his grasp with a clatter. Creeta’s fangs raised, she hissed again - filling the whole cavern

The Lost Memento

Two Steps From Hell - Memories - YouTube Queen Rejita, the newly-crowned ruler of Daedalia, strode through one of the halls of the palace. She was in the traditional garb of her people: a green sari-and-skirt combination, with her furred stomach bare except for a gold belly chain encircling her. Brilliant red fur gleamed in the light of the palace. Her long pointed canine ears seemed to constantly twitch, her tail swished behind her. Visiting humans often compared Daedalians to jackals. Indeed they did resemble the Earth animal, but Daedalians didn’t care much for that comparison. Today was a special day. Rejita had no pressing duties - a rarity. She aimed to make the most of it. Yesterday she had attended a ceremony for the opening of a brand new hospital and the queen had cut the velvet rope with her own blade. It did her soul good to see her homeworld rebuilding after such a long period of war and occupation of the Sh’ra. Even now, years after the war's conclusion, scars

Kashikoi: The Errant Parcel PT4-4

The Finale Complete darkness and silence... except for the engine turning over. Some feeling was returning to Kashi’s body, she could feel other objects pressed against her, all manner of junk. Far too dark to see what they were as she could feel the vehicle gliding away, further and further from safety. Panic was rising in the neko’s mind, she was trapped, and restrained, a gag in her mouth. She wanted out! She took in a breath and calmed herself: At least her eyes were adjusting to the darkness. Kashi had recovered enough to squirm around. There was a tool box of some sort. Rattling next to her was an empty bottle and she felt the soft touch of what must have been some old rags that stunk of grease. The neko flipped over on her stomach and felt something metal near the trunk. Her eyes were still adjusting, so it was hard to discern but it seemed to be a part of the vehicle. Banging her head against the ceiling and contorting her muscles in ways her body didn’t like, Kashikoi

Amber on the Run

The meerkat girl - dressed in shorts, a vest, and a short-sleeved shirt - wiped her forehead as she stalked through the jungle. Amber loved the vest: It had enough pockets for all her various objects - notepads, writing utensils, recorders, and cameras - for an article she was writing about the small tropical island nation of Safilr: a heavily sanctioned country quite hostile to journalists. The island was undergoing a historic event. For the first time in decades, an actual election was taking place. For years, the thylacine President - General Theolin - had ruled with an iron fist and all manner of political rivals had been met with ‘accidents’ or locked up never to be seen again. Finally, though, someone was able to challenge the old marsupial and live: An old, charming, and wealthy dingo - Dr. Andrew “the Professor” Landis, PhD. But Amber wasn’t just there to cover an election: she was following a lead. According to an old contact of Amber’s, a large company had been using
